There’s a lesson to be learned from every step taken

Ok… Every step I take, there’s a  mistake I make… no problem.

You know, the biggest mistake I think most people make when they start to learn something new is that they become afraid to make mistakes.  Worse yet, they (like me) even know that the mistakes exist and know they (like me) don’t know how to avoid them completely.  It’s the downside of knowing a little about something.

Let me be clear about the mistakes I’ve discovered I made just recently.

1.) I didn’t clear my email list of all the potential “potholes” on the info superhighway.  To be very clear:  the wrong people getting my email invitation to my webinar.  People like my clients’ employees that I should steer clear of inviting.

2.) I didn’t put my twitter, facebook, linkedin, website, etc. links on my email invitation.  Oooops!  All that work setting up those accounts and making them pretty, and nobody knows to connect to them.

3.) I didn’t put in additional automated sequences to thank folks for registering for the webinar.  Interesting statistic: 14 registrations as of tonight, 25 clicks to the registration page, 320 opened the email.

4.) I didn’t send a follow up email… before the event.  But since it’s the holidays, I decided that it was better to just take learn my lesson for next time.

5.) I didn’t post the invitation link all over my social media network.  I will next time.  It’s probably the best use of my ping.fm account.

6.)  I haven’t learned how to use categories and tags in WordPress very well.  I’m going to attempt to add some tags to this post and see what happens.

That’s all I can think of for now.  I’m sure I’ll figure out some more mistakes that I’ve made.

What mistakes have you made when you first started marketing on the web2.0 platform?

Thanks for stopping by and please leave a comment.  It helps us both on the rankings.

Sent out my first webinar invitation

This was an awesome day for my web marketing campaign.  I took some action outside of my own laptop.

I sent out 3917 emails in 2 minutes (and 5 secs) using Infusionsoft.  769 were skipped… skipped? WT….Heck?  and 773 bounced.  So long bounced.

So, I’ve got some learning to do. It turns out that they are not authorized to receive emails from me.  A call to the support desk will help me figure it out.

So now the stats begin.  I had 2,375 delivered and a bunch of Out of Office Replies flooded my inbox. I think that that’s good news.  I’ve got a reason to follow up with them after the Christmas break most people are on right now.

The good news is that 203 were opened and I had several e-versations with my friends and long lost acquaintances.  I have even had 9 actual registrations.  Pretty good for the first 6 hours.

I’ve got to practice my webinar, get my powerpoints just right and make sure that there aren’t any stray noisemakers around when we do our recording.

If you want to join in on the webinar on Dec 28 at 9:07am: just click here: http://budurl.com/nyre

Ready to launch my first webinar

I just finished working with Clarke Bishop to get my invitation working through Infusionsoft seamlessly.

Here’s the deal. Infusionsoft is awesome, but it’s not necessarily user friendly. I had originally set up the connection and invitation to my GoToWebinar registration page in four steps… that’s right four steps. I know that would piss me off, and I get pissed off all the time when people make me work harder than technology could allow.

Clarke got it down to ONE step. ONE step. You’ll see… you’ll get the email and click the register button and you’re done. Ready to experience 27 minutes of excellence that will help you get more.

Anyway, the webinar is more of an experiment and a “probe” on my address book to see who and what people want more of that I could provide solutions to help them get.

Ok, That’s it for now.

Starting the process of Web Marketing Automation Strategies

Here I am beginning the process of implementing web marketing automation strategies.

Let me tell you where I am in my development in my own development using web2.0 tools and strategies to take advantage of the internet to automate my marketing efforts.

Here’s where I’m at: I am certified with Infusionsoft as a Certified Marketing Automation Consultant (Coach) and I haven’t used the product as of yet to begin marketing myself. Why you ask? Good question. I’ve been busy. Really, really busy with my “day job” and I haven’t had the focus with what I want to accomplish as a marketing automation consultant. Pretty lame excuse, but here I am, where I’m at and I have to begin.

I also have some information, which may be the piece of the puzzle that’s kept me putting off taking action. I also have had weak marketing goals and plans. I have been working with a friend that is much more technologically competent than I am and have been waiting to get started. Well, wait no longer.

I have decided to let you join me on my learning journey and to keep you posted as to my growth and development in this area. I also think that you may be interested in internet marketing and how to leverage the power of the internet to grow my consulting practice.

The first thing I am struggling with is “what do I want to market?” Have you been there? I have so much to offer, and I am struggling with narrowing my focus. I have a passion for small-mid sized businesses because I can work with the owners of those businesses and share my struggles and frustrations as an entrepreneur.

So, I want to connect with other owners and entrepreneurs as they sort out the internet marketing maze to grow their business. If you want to follow my journey, stay tuned. I will post the results of my work each day (and that is a challenge for me) and on twitter @dominicx throughout the days and months as I figure this thing out for the benefit of small business owners around the globe.

Thanks for joining me!

Thinking about Thinking

I’m about to lead another week of leadership training.  I am committed that my students get maximum value and I have been thinking about the class and how to create maximum value for each and every student in the class.

As I am thinking about my outcome, I realized that I am certain that my results in life are a result of my thinking.  I have always known that intellectually, it’s just that I got an overwhelming sense that it is more true now than ever before.

I started to think about how I think about what gives me the passion, power and purpose to do what I do and to get so much in return for my commitment.  I am clear that it is the way that i think that allows me to focus on the outcomes that are most important to me and that I fulfill on those outcomes based on the way that I think.

I wonder if you have ever thought about your thinking? I wonder if you are listening to your thoughts or just having them.

I’m now tired and will go to sleep thinking about how I can write in my blog everyday so that I can contribute to you as well.

When Shift Happens

Hi,

I’m working diligently in my day job designing powerful, impactful and meaningful training programs for my clients.

In the course of my ADD Life I am joyful to discover that I am finding the thread that makes my life make sense.   Although I have a wide variety of interests and abilities, it is clear to me that the binding thread is my love and ability to teach a wide variety of valuable skills to others.

I’m so excited about the Marketing Automation Program that Clarke Bishop and I are putting together.  It will be such a resource for me and the students to finally get a handle on what it takes to leverage the internet to increase their business.  There are so many tools, platforms and procedures required to leverage the internet, it’s kind of like looking for a library book if all the books were in a pile.  Our job will be to sort out the mess, organize the plan and teach people what it takes from A to Z to grow their business.

Look for more and exciting updates to this blog as we learn to leverage the internet together.

Be Awesome!
